Nothing

A woman cares for her children. Their physical and emotional wellbeing. Their development. Their understanding of the world and their place in it.

She runs the home. The laundry. The dishes. The meals. Holiday decorations and toy organization. Cleaning and coziness.

She writes. She reflects on what she knows to be true and shares her reflections with a world that changes ever so slightly from the impact of her words.

She is a woman who thinks. Who loves. Who comforts. Who cares. Who makes a difference.

Her work in the home is invisible. Indispensible.

Her work with her writing purposeful. Catalytic.

Her work with her children fundamental. Existential.

And yet, this woman has no job. No earnings.

And therefore, in the eyes of a relentlessly disillusioned and cruel society that values only expediency, efficiency, and fleeting, hollow satiety over flourishing and fulfilled homo sapiens, she contributes nothing.

She is worth nothing.

She is nothing.
