Happy Birthday, Piper

Dearest Piper,

6 years. Holy schmoly!

I wish I could say that it feels like just yesterday that I held you as a tiny baby in my arms, but if I’m being honest, it feels like a lifetime ago. I can barely remember that short time we spent together. I was so preoccupied with other things then. Silly things – like trying to prove my worth by being perfect and productive. I was with you all the time, but I was never really THERE.

Today, on your 6th birthday, I want you to know this: I’m here now. And I promise I will be forever more.

I’m so lucky that I get to be with you as you grow and learn and become more YOU every day – I’m not going to take that for granted anymore. You are so incredibly smart and creative, full of life and energy. You ask questions every day that blow my mind – I’m in awe of your curiosity and way of seeing the world. I hope I can help continually fuel that sense of wonder. I vow to support you in pursuing your interests, following your dreams, making meaningful friendships, and becoming the true YOU you were always meant to be.

I’m so grateful that your soul chose me to be your mom, and I promise to honor that gift by being present today and every day for hopefully the many many years we still get to spend together. Happy birthday, my sweet girl.
